Asthma remains a serious and costly health issue in our nation. More than 25 million Americans have asthma, including 4.2 million children. In addition to its toll on health, asthma imposes a huge financial cost and is responsible for millions of missed school days and workdays every year.
The National Asthma Control Program (NACP) within the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is highly effective in improving asthma outcomes in states and communities across the country. The NACP works to reduce the number of deaths, emergency department visits, hospitalizations, school days or workdays missed, and limitations on activity due to asthma.
But right now, the National Asthma Control Program is only in 23 states across the country. Please email your Members of Congress to urge them to support $40 million for this program in FY24 so CDC can increase the number of states funded to better respond to the burden of asthma.
