Across the country, medium and heavy-duty trucks represent a small fraction of all vehicles on the road, but they generate most of the air pollution. Trucking contributes to carcinogenic diesel exhaust, ozone-forming pollution and greenhouse gas emissions that drive climate change. Cleaning up trucking pollution is critical to improving local air quality, reducing disparities in pollution burdens and addressing the climate crisis.
We need your help to bring the clean air and climate benefits of more zero-emission trucks and buses to our communities. Please join us in signing this petition to your governor to enact the Advanced Clean Trucks regulations to accelerate zero-emission trucking.
Note: A growing list of states have already adopted the ACT standards since 2020 (California, Colorado, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Vermont and Washington). We’ll pass your message along to your governor if you live in a state that has not yet adopted the standards.

Letter to Your Governor
Dear Governor:
The time is now to act to reduce harm from truck pollution by moving forward with zero-emission trucks. I call on you to adopt the Advanced Clean Trucks standards.
Today, nearly 120 million Americans nationwide face increased health risks due to poor air quality in the form of ozone (“smog”) or fine particle pollution. Heavy-duty trucks make up just a small fraction of all vehicles on the roads, but generate the majority of the share of these pollutants among vehicles.
Air pollution from the trucking sector contributes to asthma attacks, heart attacks and stroke, lung cancer and premature death. Children, seniors and those living with lung and heart illnesses are at greater risk, as are people with lower incomes and communities of color, who often face greater local exposures due to trucking pollution.
We call on you to ensure we join the growing number of states that have already taken action to address trucking pollution through the Advanced Clean Trucks (ACT) standards. These standards ensure increased numbers of zero-emission trucks, and their associated health benefits, over the coming decades. The American Lung Association’s “Delivering Clean Air” report noted that American communities with the heaviest truck traffic could collectively experience $735 billion in public health benefits by accelerating the zero-emission technologies at the heart of this lifesaving rule.
Please adopt the Advanced Clean Truck standards to put us on the road to clean, healthy air.
Sincerely,
Your Name and State
